Dear god, I am so old.

I must be. I was just reading this Cracked article about various types of costumes, and I am the Grown-Up.

I've spent most of today thinking about how tired I am and how I can't wait to go back to bed. This was not helped by people telling me both that I look tired and that I look like I'm getting really sick (I'm not, this is just what my FACE looks like, people.) I have nowhere to be tonight, and I wish I was wearing a sweater...

I didn't even get into a costume for work today because I have to take the Widget to the vet afterward (she has a cold), and it was pouring, and I just... couldn't. No energy. Still wiped out after the Great Patrick Asthma Adventure, I guess. Or maybe it's these pills? I don't know.

Anyway, I tried imagining myself going to some Halloween party. I got there and had a beverage and then I guess I imagined a really shitty party or something, because my imaginary self got fed up and told the fake partygoers that they were all stupid and a waste of my time, and then stalked out. So that was a bust.

Even imaginary me is crotchety. This is the END, y'all.

Next step is Depends and worrying about bingo wings flapping around in my muumuu when I play bridge with Ethel and Maude next weekend. /facepalm

I love fall. I can start to break out my zillion-scarf collection again!
My friend Autumn pointed out some disturbing signs on Aurora the other day. One said, "Psych drugs are bad", and the other said "Psych drugs are bad for kids." Stuff like this really depresses me. Sure, psych meds are bad for you when they're wrongly prescribed, but so is blood pressure medication. For some of us, psych meds save our lives. And sometimes kids need them, too.
Silent Hill: Revelation is coming out in about a week! I'm sure it will be kind of awesomely terrible. I am equally certain that I will see it anyway. Although to be fair, the previews actually looked pretty good. So maybe there is hope!
The advent of October rain (YAY!) also heralds the yearly reactivation of the gym membership. We have rain gear for hiking, but sometimes you just get tired of being out in The Soggy, you feel me?
Tonight is my single night of Patrickness this week. The man has got rehearsals every other night with the Tacoma Symphony, so I am rapidly working my way through the book pile we brought home from Powell's back when we went down to Portland. Good thing Stephen King writes giant novels. I'm currently working on Insomnia, and I am loving the Dark Tower references!
Thanks again to my parents for that fabulous electric blanket. I can't tell you how much I love it. There are no words. The cats add their appreciation as well.
I hope y'all like the autumn-ization of this blog. The misty green seemed a little out of place with the piles of leaves everywhere outside. Halloween's in two weeks! Can't wait.

We are so incredibly Halloween-y up in here.

On Sunday Patrick and I went down to Olympia to visit my sister and her husband, and since it wasn't storming (like it was supposed to be, I feel so cheated) we went to a corn maze, made dinner, and then saw Frankenweenie! That movie was very cute, by the way. I love Mr. Whiskers. I think he and Weird Girl are my favorites.

Anyway, I took some pictures of the corn maze. It was fun. I'd never been in one before, and I liked the sweetish warm air wafting down the cornrows. Corn is an amazing windbreak, I must say. The map wasn't exactly accurate, but we managed all the same, thanks to the good direction sense (and map-following skills) of our men. Kim and I mostly followed along and made snarky puns involving Monty Python's Holy Grail.

And I am so excited! I cannot wait to be downpoured upon. It's been ages since we got decent rain. I think I read somewhere that the last recorded instance of significant precipitation this summer was back in July. That is mad for around here.

I may go all Natalie Portman in V For Vendetta. Except without the shaven head and sackcloth.

We were originally planning to go visit a corn maze with my sister and her husband next Sunday before seeing Frankenweenie, but if there's flooding and/or downed trees, power outages, and whatnot, we may either postpone the whole thing or just go for the movie and dinner. Depends on what the storm looks like. We have rain gear for hiking, so it's not a matter of getting wet, but if the weather is too bad we don't want to get stuck down in Olympia or have the poor kitties be all alone in a dark house with no heating if the power goes out. We shall see. In the meantime, more rain pictures to get us all in the mood for what's coming!

... Heavy rain possible across western Washington this weekend
through early next week...

A pattern change will bring wet weather back to western
Washington Friday through the weekend after a prolonged dry spell.
Weak weather systems will affect the area on Friday and Saturday
with widespread measurable rainfall expected. A stronger system
will then steer heavy rain into the Pacific northwest late
Saturday night through possibly Monday night.

If the forecast models are correct... this will be the first
significant storm of the season. Some forecast models show several
inches of rain in the mountains with sharp rises expected on the
rivers. The Olympics may see 4 to 8 inches of rain through Monday
night... with 2 to 5 inches possible in the Cascades. As for The
Lowlands... the coast may see 1 to 4 inches... with 1 to 2 inches of
rain in the interior.

Breezy to windy conditions are also forecast over this period. The
coast and north interior are likely to be the windiest locations.

Models have not pinned down the exact storm track so there are
some uncertainties in the timing and impacts of this system. Monitor
forecasts from the National Weather Service for the latest updates.

Dark day

It is incredibly rainy and dark out today, so no mowing the lawn for us! Maybe by the weekend we'll be able to get that done. But in the meantime I am enjoying the rain and the lack of hot sun on my face.

Last night we were watching Batman Begins, and somewhere around the middle of it my lower back right near my tailbone started aching. This did not go away all night, and in fact is even more obnoxious today. It's hard to walk without pain, and using that set of muscles in any way (bending down, grabbing something, sitting, getting up) is really awful. I've taken a bunch of Ibuprofen, and I hope it's just another one of those weird muscle knots. It's only on the right side, and it feels like a wadded-up bunch of muscle under my skin.

Maybe I should just woman up and go ask the doctor for some muscle relaxers or something, I don't know.

I took this when we went out to grab some fruit, cheese and crackers about 8:30pm from Top Foods. We were standing in the parking lot and I thought it looked neat how you could see the dark rain shadow below the clouds. I nearly missed getting some lightning in the picture.

Thunderstorms!

We are finally getting some rain over here (it's been a couple weeks, seems like forever), accompanied by a bit of thunder and lightning. We almost never get those, so this is a real treat. I saw a pretty good lightning burst earlier, although I think it was pretty far away. I took a couple more pictures of my lilies right as the rain was beginning.
