I am sick YET AGAIN.

So monumentally tired of this crap. I feel horrible, and I'm going to go home and back to bed as soon as I can. This is the third or fourth cold in just a few months. My throat felt swollen, and it was hard to swallow. Then on came the stuffiness, and now the icky throat feeling and congestion are being accompanied by a wonderful dry cough. I'll take something to make it productive when I get home.

Hope all of you are healthier than I am.

It is COLD!

I had lunch with my beloved Madame today, and it was wonderful as always. Thank you for coming all that way, Maman!

It is chilly as hell here. I took some photos of our back porch. This Blogger app won't let me give the pictures captions or tell it what order to put them in, but two of them are of the mat outside our back door. I went out a little bit ago to give some water to the fuchsia I'm trying valiantly to keep alive in our shed, and it was like an ice rink out there. I kinda wished I had crampons...

Anyway, I tried to bang some of the ice off the mat, and it wasn't having it, as you can see in the pictures. The ice just broke up a bunch and now it's chunky. Hardly any of it came off, despite repeat bangings. The other picture is just of the deck itself, so you can appreciate how frozen it STILL is even after an entire day's worth (admittedly puny up here) of sunshine. Brrr!

Stayed home sick today

Still feel vile. Ugh. Head starts pounding every time I stand up, and my back still really aches. Is this the flu? I don't know, but I feel like crap. I'm going to try to make it in tomorrow. We'll see how that goes.

In better news, my grandmother, who along with my dad is also sick, was just discharged from the hospital after being admitted with pneumonia. She is recovering at home now, and I hope we all feel completely better soon!

Good luck to R with your appointment tomorrow! I hope you are able to make it and get your poor back looked at.

I hope the rest of you are healthier than I am!

My head is killing me (not literally)

This cold SUCKS. I'm sorry for not commenting on y'all's blogs. I am still reading, but my phone has quit allowing me to comment on them for some reason, and my head hurts too much to get up and do it at the laptop. I promise I am not ignoring any of you!

Thank you for the comments on the last one, girls. I have a doctor appointment on Wednesday, and we'll see what comes of it. I agree with you that something needs to change as far as the meds go!

We left an electric candle on last night, since sometimes having a light on makes the nightmares less bad when I wake up from them, and I slept all right. So I dug around and found a nightlight I bought years ago and plugged it in beside my bed. Maybe it will help. Can't hurt, anyway.

I hope you all have had a nice weekend. I'll definitely be glad when I'm feeling better.

I have a cold, and I'm NOT happy about it.

I don't think I would ever be happy about having a cold, but in this case I'm particularly pissed off. The last of our new hiking gear just arrived, and I really wanted to go for a hike this weekend, but I couldn't even open a tightly closed bottle at work today without stopping to rest in the middle of my efforts. My body is that out of it. I'm doing that stare-off-into-oblivion thing, and it's an effort even to compose a coherent blog post. Ugh!

I was really confused a couple times last night. One was when I'd gone to sleep and then woke up to see the light on and Patrick playing video games. I don't know what I thought, but suddenly I was all, "What's going on?!" Poor Patrick. Maybe I thought there was a video game apocalypse. Or it was suddenly the middle of the afternoon in August. I don't know.

The other occasion was when I'd woken up around 7:45am, and my alarm goes off at 8. There was enough light outside that I could see it through the blinds, but damn if I couldn't figure out what the blinds were. I have horrible vision without glasses, and my brain was so clogged up with snot and such that I just stared at the blinds for about 2 minutes trying to figure out what they were and why there were lines of light between each one. Sigh. This cold is turning me into an idiot.

I finally got up and dragged myself in to work, Patrick in tow, but I can't wait to go back to bed. So out of it. I hate you, sickness. *stares blankly at the wall for a while*

In other news, I want THIS (see below):

The model is the lady who makes them (I think...). Except with different colors, primarily red, blue, green (all in jewel tones since pastels look insipid on me), and black. Maybe some white and grey, but I'm not sure yet. I want it to look like stained glass. And I want a slightly different hood, done in their Faerie Queen style (long tail down the back).

Sadly it is expensive (as most things I want are), so I must save up for a long time in order to buy it. I tried to get Patrick to not buy me Christmas and birthday presents last year in order to feel like I was saving up for it more. He kind of listened. Sort of. Not really. He got me an awesome umbrella. Oh, and these neat hair dye thingies, purple and blue. I will try to take a picture of what it looks like when I use them when I'm feeling better, if I don't screw it up. I tried doing it the other day and ended up with blue snot the next morning. Apparently the color gets aerosolized pretty easily...

I want to wear that Dream Coat (that is what she calls them) whilst carrying my mad Tim Burton parasol and having blue and purple hair. It's a good thing Patrick knew I was nuts when he married me, or this all might put him right off...

Hibernating

Thank you all for your lovely comments on my previous post! It is a wonderful thing having such great people in your corner.

It's been really chilly here lately, and we even had snow on Wednesday morning. Fortunately it was nearly gone by the time we got home, but I always hate waking up and seeing that white stuff all over the ground. In this town, it means hellish traffic and the possibility of an accident.

I've been going to bed really early lately because I've been so sleepy (and tired, if I don't get about 10 hours of sleep per night), and last night I think I was in bed by 9. So, of course, I haven't gotten much done on any musical stuff this week, but hopefully I'll be sufficiently rested and creatively charged by this weekend.

Stay warm, everyone!

Almost everything in my house has the sniffles

Except Patrick and Widget, who both feel better. Now it's Monkey, Gurgles and myself. This cold hasn't progressed into anything worse, it's just lingering a bit. Monkey and Gurgles both have a cold that they caught from Widget. Who knows where she got it... Kitty colds are just so pitiful. Monkey will sneeze a couple times, sniffle a little, then look at me with overwhelming sadness like she can't believe I'm letting such a thing happen to her. Sigh. Gurgles is obviously ill, judging by the exponential decline in how much he's airborne during the day. Poor sick kitties.

I'm so looking forward to this three-day weekend and then a week-long break the week of Thanksgiving. Our entire household could use some rest and relaxation. I really hope we aren't all still sick when the holiday rolls around. Probably won't be... *knock on wood*

If only all classical music were as accessible

My mom sent me this video, and I loved it. Patrick and I were speaking the other day about how there is so much beautiful, passionate classical music out there, but people tend to think it's boring and unrelatable. A lot of the wonderful stuff is Russian (see Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, to name just a couple), and I wish symphonies would play more of that, along with pieces like the one shown below, the final movement of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.

All these pieces give me chills for various reasons when I hear them. Beethoven's Ninth with the glorious chorus at the end, Night on Bald Mountain in the beginning with the creepy violins that build into that demonic brass chord series (Patrick played this gorgeously), and Scheherazade for its arrogant sultan's tones (also played to perfection by my very own spouse a while back).

I wish classical music was portrayed in a better light. Maybe more of these flash mob-type things would help. And if classical stations would quit playing that intensely boring stuff that is like one flute and a couple violins for 30 minutes straight. Give us some meat and brass! I never properly appreciated trombones until I married someone who plays one professionally. Now I do. There is no instrument in the orchestra that can deliver power like a trombone.

In other musical news, we finally got our piano tuned. The process was utterly excruciating, but it's now finished and I can play the damn thing without wanting to stab myself in the eyeball because it's so horrendously out of tune.

Along with people sniffles in our house, we have kitty sniffles. Widget has gotten over her cold, but now Gurgles has it. Sigh. I guess it's that time of year. Hopefully all the illness goes away before the holidays. I hate being sick when I'm supposed to be eating piles of food. Kinda makes Thanksgiving dinner a little pointless if you can't taste any of it.
