Confidential to whomever sent me stuff

I'm not sure who these are from, so I can't send you an email directly and let you know your very much appreciated birthday package for me has arrived, but I've so far gotten packages from Shutterfly and Amazon (very thin and flat). So if any of you sent me those, thank you! I will thank you directly when I open them and find out what they are and who they're from on Tuesday.

Almost everything in my house has the sniffles

Except Patrick and Widget, who both feel better. Now it's Monkey, Gurgles and myself. This cold hasn't progressed into anything worse, it's just lingering a bit. Monkey and Gurgles both have a cold that they caught from Widget. Who knows where she got it... Kitty colds are just so pitiful. Monkey will sneeze a couple times, sniffle a little, then look at me with overwhelming sadness like she can't believe I'm letting such a thing happen to her. Sigh. Gurgles is obviously ill, judging by the exponential decline in how much he's airborne during the day. Poor sick kitties.

I'm so looking forward to this three-day weekend and then a week-long break the week of Thanksgiving. Our entire household could use some rest and relaxation. I really hope we aren't all still sick when the holiday rolls around. Probably won't be... *knock on wood*

Statement as of 4:06 PM PDT on October 10, 2012

... Heavy rain possible across western Washington this weekend
through early next week...

A pattern change will bring wet weather back to western
Washington Friday through the weekend after a prolonged dry spell.
Weak weather systems will affect the area on Friday and Saturday
with widespread measurable rainfall expected. A stronger system
will then steer heavy rain into the Pacific northwest late
Saturday night through possibly Monday night.

If the forecast models are correct... this will be the first
significant storm of the season. Some forecast models show several
inches of rain in the mountains with sharp rises expected on the
rivers. The Olympics may see 4 to 8 inches of rain through Monday
night... with 2 to 5 inches possible in the Cascades. As for The
Lowlands... the coast may see 1 to 4 inches... with 1 to 2 inches of
rain in the interior.

Breezy to windy conditions are also forecast over this period. The
coast and north interior are likely to be the windiest locations.

Models have not pinned down the exact storm track so there are
some uncertainties in the timing and impacts of this system. Monitor
forecasts from the National Weather Service for the latest updates.

Patrick, being the knight in shining armor that he is, whisked me away to Cannon Beach, Oregon last weekend, and it gave me much-needed relief from all that horrible anxiety. The trip was complete with the world's biggest bookstore, ocean, trees, a fireplace, wine, seafood and chocolate. Everything a girl needs! Powell's, the bookstore, fairly shell-shocked me. My brain just didn't work for ages after setting foot in there. It was amazing, like having been given a horse tranquilizer (I'd imagine). I got to see a bunch of interesting works, like one from the year 1480 about Jewish history by Flavius Josephus, translated into Latin from Aramaic and Greek, a signed first edition Hemingway (The Sun Also Rises? I can't remember.), and a signed first edition Huckleberry Finn, among many others. Crazy.

During the trip I managed to both somehow break the temples of my sunglasses (without so much as scratching the lenses?!) and lose my credit card, but we canceled it immediately and it ended up being found by some nice couple who Googled me and found my folks, called every number they could find for me, and so forth, then were thoughtful enough to cut it up when I asked and text me a picture to show they did it. If you happen to be reading this blog, Aaron and Alissa, y'all are awesome!

Weekend pictures

Thank you all for your getting-well wishes! My back actually feels better. It was pretty awful Friday and most of Saturday, but after liberal application of heat and meds it started getting better. It only hurts now if I clench my muscles really tightly, and it's no longer painful to walk around or bend down, get up, whatever. So glad! That was just horrid. I felt incredibly old.

On another note: just a few snaps I took around the yard while it wasn't raining. This is before Patrick mowed, so it looks less overgrown now, but you get the idea. The hydrangea looks much better after we ripped the Satan Weed off of it. The rose is just out front, and it's that deep, gorgeous magenta when it blooms. The little blue spruce is our Christmas tree! It's doing very well, and all those really blue parts are new growth, about 2-3" on each small part. The maple is the little one we pulled out of a ditch last year and planted in our yard, hoping it would root. It appears to have done so, and we're so pleased about it.

Now with 100% less Satan Weed!
