At the doctor's office

Yet again. I have juggled many things today. Work, massage therapy, work, now doctor appointment. I swear, this accident has been SO ANNOYING. On the up side, I have a rental car and my poor car is being fixed, so some progress is being made. I have a little less pain, and the dizziness isn't quite as constant, but it is still really disorienting when it hits.

There is a possibility of snow tonight and later on this week, but I am fervently hoping it proves to be a lie. So many plants are budding out here that it will be very hurtful if temperatures drop that precipitously. I also don't want to have to drive in snow. I'm paranoid enough now just from the accident. I don't need to add slippery conditions to the mix...

Hibernating

Thank you all for your lovely comments on my previous post! It is a wonderful thing having such great people in your corner.

It's been really chilly here lately, and we even had snow on Wednesday morning. Fortunately it was nearly gone by the time we got home, but I always hate waking up and seeing that white stuff all over the ground. In this town, it means hellish traffic and the possibility of an accident.

I've been going to bed really early lately because I've been so sleepy (and tired, if I don't get about 10 hours of sleep per night), and last night I think I was in bed by 9. So, of course, I haven't gotten much done on any musical stuff this week, but hopefully I'll be sufficiently rested and creatively charged by this weekend.

Stay warm, everyone!

Blog made out of raspberry wallpaper

That's kind of what this new theme reminds me of. I was going to go with something wintery since we're rapidly approaching that state of affairs here in the Pacific Northwest, but then I tried an icy background picture and realized that it made me feel cold. I hate feeling cold! So I putzed around some more and came up with this one. It's a bit like the screen is covered in raspberry jam, but at least it makes me feel warm. Opinions?

This morning, all of Shoreline and what looked like most of Seattle was covered in very thick fog. It made for an exciting drive to work! I couldn't even see to the end of my street when I pulled out of my parking spot in front of my house. Visibility was maybe 20-25 yards. It got better a little further south, which I guess isn't surprising. From what I've heard, we live in something called a convergence zone, and we get a lot of weird weather, including weather that is more severe than the surrounding neighborhoods, because of how the air currents mix (or something like that, my understanding is a bit vague). I call such mornings Silent Hill mornings, to the surprise of absolutely no one who reads this blog.

One more day of work, yo! Patrick and I only have Friday to go, and then we are off for a glorious nine days' vacation. We aren't going anywhere, other than down to my sister's house for Thanksgiving. We're just going to relax and chill out, sleep in a lot, and unwind from the stresses of the past few months. Sometimes you just need a staycation, you know?

We may try to work on some sort of Christmas song while we have time off, if we aren't too busy being lazy and eating. I do love classic Christmas carols, by which I mean O Holy Night and It Came Upon the Midnight Clear, not Santa Baby and Baby, It's Cold Outside (which is totally about date rape, look up the words if you don't believe me). Santa Baby makes me gag inside every time I hear it. I think part of the problem is the deliberately fake, grating, semi-little kid voice the singer always seems to adopt, no matter who is performing it. WHY they do this, I don't know. Anyway, Santa Baby, I hate you. There, I said it.

I will miss Patrick tonight. He's off for another rehearsal in Tacoma, and probably won't be home until late. Sigh. I love that he does it, but I sure miss my man when he's gone. I will, however, have a wonderful opportunity to get chores done... Hooray. Hopefully the house will be freshly vacuumed and swept for him when he comes home, assuming I don't fall asleep before I get it all done. I had a horrid time trying to fall asleep last night, and I was so tired this morning when we had to get up for work. I'm tired enough still that I shouldn't have any problem drifting off tonight.

I'm so glad this had a happy ending

I heard about this story from Patrick, and it first made me absolutely furious, then afterward really glad that I live in a world where there are good people, too.

Everyone working together
Basically the story is that this guy and a friend of his went hiking on some mountains and brought his dog Missy along with them. Dogs have no business on this hike. It's called the Sawtooth for a reason. The poor dog was struggling and eventually the weather turned bad so they just left her there. After a day, they figured she was dead and didn't bother trying to get more help. Some other hikers stumbled across her after a few more days, huddled in some rocks and bleeding, so they tried to patch her up as best they could, fed her and left her with some water, but couldn't get her out as she weighed too much. They went back down and started a Facebook page, along with posting on a hikers' forum about the dog's predicament. People were enraged about the situation, and a search and rescue party of 8 was formed to go get Missy. The rescue group managed to find her and got her out, having to hike through a full-blown snowstorm to do it. Now the creep who left her up there wants her back, but he's being prosecuted for animal cruelty and the rescuers want to adopt her.

Missy being carried out
I hope he goes to jail and the rescuers get to adopt Missy. I further hope that her former owner is blacklisted by all animal adoption places from ever having another pet. I don't know how anyone could bring a dog on a hike like that in the first place, let alone leave her up there to die. Thank god there are still some real men and women on this earth to make up for the miserable failures.

Missy and her heroes

I take this as a personal affront.

It is SNOWING. Barely. But still. That horrible white stuff is drifting from the sky. There were a few flakes this afternoon, but now it's a bit more in earnest.

Note to world: Oscar Wilde was just screwing with you. There is NO importance attached to being earnest. Thanks.

In other news, we seem to have some sort of vermin living under the house. The cats were enthralled last night, and finally even Greg and I could hear rodentia scratching around under there. Greg thinks they're rats. I'm not sure. But rats, mice, gerbils, very small pachyderms, whatever they are, I want them gone! We're going to let the landpeople know, so hopefully they will take care of it. Whatever that entails. Although if they don't get around to it and eventually one of those little bastards eats its way up into the house, the cats will have an absolute field day. Ratpocalypse!

STOP SNOWING. NOW. Bloody weather.

I sang for four hours Friday evening after work, and it nearly kilt meh. Okay, so no. But I WAS very tired afterward, and I think I pulled or strained or something-ed a muscle in my left side. Singing is hard work, y'all. The first couple times I had a lesson, the next day it felt like I'd been doing situps for hours. I suppose it went fine. We were told to wear (and I quote) "stupid hats" for this Figgy Pudding business on Dec 5th, so while we were out at Fred Meyer last night I poked around and found a delightful one. It's a Santa hat with bell-bedecked reindeer antlers on it. How can you go wrong with a gem of that magnitude? I'll have you know I got a compliment on it (because of course I put it on my head immediately and wore it around the store) before I had even bought it. And then I got more compliments when I wore it to Harry Potter... You'd think people had never seen a bell-reindeer-santa hat before...

There was another hat I'd tried on first because it seemed a bit warmer, but as G informed me it made me look like I had my head shoved up Frosty the Snowman's arse. So that wouldn't do at all. And the reindeer antler headbands struck me as 1) not warm enough and 2) vaguely too reminiscent of drunken sorostitutes. Which, for those of you who are unfamiliar with the term, is an affectionate nickname given to sorority girls who dress like cheap hookers. Ah, the holidays!

I'm contemplating making stockings for us this year. My personal one is at home in Montana, and we have not got any here. We decided to do them this year for something fun and new, so (aside: STOP BLOODY SNOWING! There is even MORE coming down now! I'm going to write a nasty note to somebody about this.) I looked at a bunch online and they of course seemed overpriced for what they were. I've got an idea about instead of going to the fabric store, going to Goodwill or Value Village or similar and buying cheap clothes to cut up for fabric. Fabric bought at an actual craft store is insanely expensive, if you weren't aware of that. And I'm making stockings, not a tent. I don't exactly need fields of the stuff. So perhaps next weekend I will venture out and see what I can find.

Also, we bought a tree. Our last one got chucked in the bin because Somekitty who shall remain nameless chewed on the lights and half of them didn't work anymore. Of course it was the middle half, so we couldn't really disguise it with anything. We also have a bigger house, so we are going with a Mountain King prelighted balsam fir (multicolored). I can't find a single damn picture of it that's bigger than my eyeball (and isn't Flash) anywhere, and I can't figure out how to make a Mac take a screenshot, so go look at it here. We're going to have to go get some more trimmings, as our tree before was considerably smaller. But that is fine! I heartily enjoy trimming trees.

It is snowing MOAR. I feel sad. Why can't this crap (I just typed "carp" like three times and I suspect fish falling from the sky would actually please me more) wait until I have a four day weekend and don't have to go to work? I have stuff to do!

I'm going to go swill hot tea and sulk for a while in my pajamas.
