I'm so glad this had a happy ending

I heard about this story from Patrick, and it first made me absolutely furious, then afterward really glad that I live in a world where there are good people, too.

Everyone working together
Basically the story is that this guy and a friend of his went hiking on some mountains and brought his dog Missy along with them. Dogs have no business on this hike. It's called the Sawtooth for a reason. The poor dog was struggling and eventually the weather turned bad so they just left her there. After a day, they figured she was dead and didn't bother trying to get more help. Some other hikers stumbled across her after a few more days, huddled in some rocks and bleeding, so they tried to patch her up as best they could, fed her and left her with some water, but couldn't get her out as she weighed too much. They went back down and started a Facebook page, along with posting on a hikers' forum about the dog's predicament. People were enraged about the situation, and a search and rescue party of 8 was formed to go get Missy. The rescue group managed to find her and got her out, having to hike through a full-blown snowstorm to do it. Now the creep who left her up there wants her back, but he's being prosecuted for animal cruelty and the rescuers want to adopt her.

Missy being carried out
I hope he goes to jail and the rescuers get to adopt Missy. I further hope that her former owner is blacklisted by all animal adoption places from ever having another pet. I don't know how anyone could bring a dog on a hike like that in the first place, let alone leave her up there to die. Thank god there are still some real men and women on this earth to make up for the miserable failures.

[Slightly less] horrible [than previously thought] hazmat spill on I-5

There was a hazmat spill on I-5 going into Seattle a little while ago. Apparently it's 2 gallons instead of 50, which is nice, but it's still nasty, corrosive stuff. The news has info on it here.

Wednesday's Waiting

I've been telling my friend that, when I'm out of workin January, that I'm going to be painting parts of my house and working in the wood shop. But seriously, I think this painting project would be a lot more fun.

And, for those of you who are keepign track at home, I have NOT heard from my Houston friend here at work. She's had all weekend, Monday, and yesterday to respond, so I'm done worrying about it. All of my memories of her are wonderful and so we will leave it at that.

Hooters, for all its wonderful tackiness, was the perfect place for dinner last night. It wax Sexy Santa Tuesday and they certainly lived up to their name. Nothing makes a salad better than saucy on the side.

The waitresses there, the good ones, a a little like strippers (in a good way).  They have great people skills, they are fun and flirty, they get you to stay longer than you planned, spend more money than you should, and send you hope with your ego pumped up just a little bit, even if it's all just make-believe.  But isn't that what Santa is all about?  The hope that we get a special package under the tree?

And yes, for those who are wondering, she knows I took her picture, in fact, I e-mailed it to her...   :-)

Travel Warning

This story hit CNN last Friday, but I just saw it today.  I had to laugh because I just challenged a friend of mine to travel with her toys, I don't think she's going to now....

Get your Freak On!

So which toys do you take with you?
Which one's can't you do without?
And have you ever been caught?
