Before I made you laugh,
Before I got you undressed,

Before I even got you to admit that the sound of my voice got you wet.

You were a Mother.

I may call you a lot of things, 

Slut, 

Whore

A good girl,

But there is someone out there who calls you Mother.

I make you take pictures

I require words and calls and proof

I even give you homework to be completed with your husband.

But the hand-print turkeys and poorly colored flowers on the fridge

Prove that you are a Mom.

I make you say the dirtiest things

Admit to needs long unspoken

and force you to beg for the right to be at my feet,

But the most important words you speak,

are those that comfort a small child in the middle of a dark night,
"Mommy loves you."

I may never work for Hallmark, I won't write poems that make you tear up over finger sandwiches or brunch, but I know that what ever twisted role I put you into the next time we play, nothing is more important than your role as Mom, Mummsie, Mommy, or Mother.

What we do together is fun, 

What you do at home, is important.
