Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope you're all enjoying Love Day in your own way, be it pampering yourself or hugging your pets or having dinner with a Significant Other. Patrick and I are going to Volterra for Valentine's Day dinner (NO wild boar this time, I have learned my lesson). I was going to dress up, but it's raining buckets outside and the last time we had dinner there we had to park literally a half mile away, so I decided sensible clothes and hiking boots were in order. He gave me a wonderful massage last night that lulled me right into sleep. No nightmares, so I am happy!

On the hair front, I have decided that purplish red does not suit my skin color (or like anything I own except stuff that's black and white). It looks SO weird. I may at a later date attempt red hair again, but for now I'm looking forward to regaining my original brown! I miss you, brown hair. I miss how you went with everything and you didn't look terrible when you were left alone to be naturally curly. My appointment is on March 9 at 11am.

In other news, we did our taxes and are getting a refund, so I get to order my Dreamcoat! I tried to get Patrick to refrain from giving me birthday and Christmas presents so I could save up for this, and we are using only extra money from gigs for it. I am SO excited. Construction has begun, although it will probably be at least a month and a half before it's finished. Can't wait to show you guys what it looks like.

Happy Valentine's Day! You are loved!

For Patrick

I saw a bowl of these at work and fished this one out of it.

Friday's photography [updated...again]

I've been rapidly cycling between hypomania and depression yesterday and today, and I needed to let off some creative steam. I felt the need for some art supplies, so after work Patrick and I took a jaunt down to Ballard's Dakota Art Store, and I stocked up on canvas, itty bitty easels (2x2"), some more acrylics (red and black) and a red pen. I'll show you the results when I'm finished if they aren't terrible.

Update: here is one result:

Update #2: here is another one:

Update 3: I'll stop doing this now, I promise.

This one kind of sucked, so we turned it sideways and I'm pretending it's Cthulhu in tree form. With sharks. Pretend with me.
While we were there, we decided some cupcakes might be in order, so we stopped by Cupcake Royale and got ourselves a few. I had a babycake on the spot and ordered a Deathcake Mocha. Yes, there is such a thing. It was very tasty. We also got four to go, and they are currently biding their time on our kitchen counter. We may manage to wait a while before scarfing them, but it's looking doubtful.

I also decided a wander through La Tienda was in order. It's basically a shop with stuff you don't need and most of which you don't want, but it has a few gems in it that are totally covetable. One such: a necklace made out of an iridescent butterfly wing (don't worry, it died of natural causes first; the natives collect the wings from the forest floor and it provides them with income). It is stunning, and I love it.

Photos from the adventure:

Butterfly wing necklace! It looks more blue in person, and the border is actually silver, not sure why it filtered as copper.

I would wear the hell out of this.

I love gothic heart jewelry. It's just lovely. I think my friend Jenn was right a year or five ago when she said the closest word to describe my weird-ass style was probably "steampunk". Although I also favor "profoundly insane". Anyway, I love ornate things, red, black, green, blue, black-and-white stripes, clockworks mixed with organic designs, frilly things, flowy things, and so forth.
