I had just opened the door to the restroom a couple nights ago and had barely stepped out when I heard a frantic scratching sound, looked to my right, and saw Widget flying through the air. Straight down, so she wasn't doing it very well, but airborne nonetheless.
She's been sitting up on top of the kittywalk staring at that really high shelf with the plant on it and hollering off and on for a while now, and I suspect that she once saw Gurgles actually make it up there successfully. She hadn't had this burning desire until recently, and the only attempt of his that I ever knew about was where he missed and yanked the vine down on himself, getting dirt everywhere. I can't imagine that would've inspired her...
Anyway, Miss Widget evidently tried to make a leap for the shelf and it didn't work out. She isn't the most acrobatic of cats normally, but I suspect even less so when she's about 8 feet up in the air. She weighs sixteen pounds, so she isn't exactly floating material (although she isn't obese, she's just big and she probably shouldn't gain any more weight). She landed on her feet and didn't seem to have anything hurt except her dignity afterwards, so here's hoping that she learned something from this wonderful experience.
...but I sincerely doubt it.
