So I have a request: would each one of you fabulous people who read this and think of me as a friend please consider folding one of your own and mailing it to me? I'd love it if you could write your name and the city/state (or country, territory, whatever) you live in on it so I can remember who made which one. If you would like, I will send you one in return. I can't promise that it will be good, but I can promise that it will be from me! Just let me know in your email if you want one, and obviously you'll need to give me an address if I don't already have it.
Just so you know, I don't care if they're perfect! It only matters that they are from friends and family. Each one shouldn't be very big if you're using the usual size of paper, just a few inches when finished, and fold down to almost nothing when flat, so they should fit in a regular envelope and be only a few cents to mail. You can use regular computer paper, origami paper, whatever you like. Directions on Youtube abound. Make it your own! (Here are text directions with pictures for those of you who eschew Youtube.)
I don't want to post my address right on the blog, but if you email me and let me know you're willing to help, I will write you back and give it to you. My email is lifebloom at gmail dot com.
If I can manage it (I'm shy on camera), I'll take a video of it once it's all assembled and up, so you'll be able to see what it looks like, and maybe take some videos along the way as well, but definitely pictures for sure. Patrick's got a phone that's capable, so we should be fine, assuming he can convince me to allow myself to be filmed. I have some origami paper already, although I'll probably want more, and hopefully this weekend or something I can run down to the International District and grab a paper parasol to use. I will start practicing folding the cranes right away. In fact, I am doing it right now.
If this turns out, it is going to be amazing, y'all.
