How did everyone celebrate Saint Patrick's Day? We trekked on down to St James cathedral again, since my sister hadn't seen it, and that seemed appropriate. Visiting Catholic churches on Catholic saint days is fitting. It was just as beautiful as I remembered, although they had some vaguely strange religious art painted on boards or something that was a bit odd. Maybe they rotate art installations. It wasn't there the last time we visited, and I preferred the stained glass crucifix in the chapel to the wooden one that was in there this time, but it still was nice even with those differences.

Cannot. Wait. To see The Hunger Games this Friday! So excited! Hopefully all the truly rabid teenagers will have attended the midnight showing Thursday evening, and we'll actually get decent places to sit. We're still planning on showing up a bit early, but none of that camping out crap. Just about an hour should do it. The last Harry Potter was the same way. Everyone really insane goes to the midnight showing and then is either too tired or doesn't have enough allowance to go to anything on actual release day. Maybe I'll wear my archery guard just to get into the spirit of things. haha

We had some weird-ass weather last night. We got one flash of lightning, one crash of thunder that sounded like it was directly over the house, and then sheets and sheets of slightly smaller than pea-sized hail that piled up in drifts everywhere. I got to chisel that off my car in the morning, which was a hoot, let me tell you. All the hail hitting the living room windows confused Gurgles. I think he was under the impression that there were a million little birds out there pecking on the glass, but he couldn't see them because I was a horrible person and kept the blinds pulled (it was dark out by the time this started). Sigh.

We learned recently that Patrick will be playing Mozart's Requiem with the Seattle Symphony in Benaroya Hall on May 18th and 19th. He will be playing the second trombone part, which is fabulous because it's got a 30-second-ish solo in it, at the beginning of the Tuba Mirum (comes directly after the Dies Irae). Well, solo trombone right at first, and then sort of a duet with a male vocalist. He will be amazing. According to the internet, 'Tuba Mirum, from W.A. Mozart's "Requiem Mass", is used in virtually all orchestral auditions as a measure of a player's legato style and musically expressive capabilities. The Tuba Mirum is among the most beautiful excerpts for trombone in the orchestral repertoire.'

So proud! I can't wait to hear him. He will actually be performing it three times, once on the 18th and twice on the 19th, but we'll probably only be able to get a comp ticket once for me. I plan on bringing my opera glasses so I can better see him being awesome. I've heard the Requiem performed once before, in St James cathedral, but this will be the first time hearing it in a large concert hall.

He is turning out to be very popular this year. Makes me feel kinda bad asking him to mow the lawn and clean the catbox when I know he could be doing this...
